Support/Repair Policy

MMS is authorized to repair the following:

  • Dell desktops and laptops that are purchased with a 3-year warranty and are less than 6 years old.
  • Apple desktops and laptops that are purchased with a 3-year warranty and are less than 6 years old
  • UNT-built desktops and laptops*

*Effective 9/1/2008, UNT-built computers must be less than 6 years old to receive support.  After 9/1/2008, UNT-built computers will be considered to have a 3-year warranty from their date of purchase.

Server Support:  All servers at UNT should be maintained under a 4-hour vendor service agreement.  To supplement this, MMS will (during regular working hours of 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, when UNT-Denton campus is open)

  • Assist with ordering and installation of warranty repair parts
  • Assist with hardware troubleshooting
  • Assist with transferring repair parts between campus locations

Other hardware items (e.g. printers, personal devices (PDA’s, iPods), and data projectors) are not supported.

MMS is funded to provide warranty service:

With a budget funded by Education & General, Auxiliaries, and Instructional Fees, MMS provides hardware repair services for supported faculty/staff and lab microcomputers.  At the time of repair, there is no additional cost for labor or repair parts, except for consumable supplies such as batteries**.  Effective 9/1/2008, however, customer departments must pay for repair parts if

  • the computer is more than 3 years old or not under warranty, and
  • parts are not already in stock within MMS

**Batteries in notebooks and stand-by power supplies (UPS/SPS) are consumable supplies, not capital equipment. When a battery is worn out, the customer's department is responsible for acquiring a replacement.  (MMS continues to order and replace batteries that are under warranty, which is typically for a period of one year for notebooks and two years for stand-by power supplies.)
